Metro Transit Turns 50 Wednesday

ST. LOUIS (AP) – The St. Louis region’s Metro transit service is celebrating 50 years of bus service.

It was April 1963 that what was then called the Bi-State Development Agency acquired 15 privately-owned transit companies in the St. Louis region. Now, Metro has a fleet of 374 vehicles serving 75 routes. Metro says the vehicles carry more than 29 million passengers each year.

Metro was marking the anniversary with a celebration on Wednesday at its bus center in the Central West End.
