No More Free Parking On Opening Day

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Thousands of Cardinals fans leaving today’s home opener may find parking tickets on their windshields because the new City Treasurer is cracking down.

“In the past, the office has offered free parking to people on Opening Day,” St. Louis Treasurer Tishaura Jones said. However, with a $72 million debt looming, the Parking Division cannot afford to look the other way this year.

“I’m not saying I’m not a baseball fan. However, my first obligation is to the taxpayers of the city of St. Louis,” she said.

“You need to feed the meter and if you think you’re going to be there longer than two hours, because the downtown meters are two hours, then you need to look at using one of the service lots or parking garages,” Jones added.
